What’s So Great About a Tile Roof?

Tile roofing has a rich history in Florida and is still one of the most popular roofing materials in our coastal cities. But what makes tile roofing great?  We are showing three key reasons tile roofs are great for you and your home

1. Tile is an Environmentally Friendly Roof Material

Tile roofs are mostly made of clay or concrete. Because of this, a tile roof can also be recycled at the end of its lifespan, and the concrete can be reused over and over. When we tear off a concrete tile roof and bring the used tiles to the recycling center, they are crushed and used to create new material. Therefore, concrete roof tiles are considered a green roofing material.

2. Tile Roofs Last a Long Time

Tile roofs are very long-lasting with proper maintenance. Concrete and clay tiles can last decades with proper care. Tile roofs are also Class A fire resistant. Additionally, when properly installed, tile roofs can sustain winds up to 180 mph, as high as a category 5 hurricane! They are also Class 3-4 hail resistant, making it a great material for the coastal Florida cities and towns.

3. Tile Roofs are Energy Efficient

Tile roofs are an inherently energy efficient product. They are naturally reflective, and their high thermal mass enables them to absorb and store heat during the day and slowly release it at night; helping reduce cooling and heating costs throughout the year. Many homeowners in warm climates prefer tile for these properties, and some even choose a white or other light-colored tile to further cool their homes.

As you can see, tile roofing is popular for many reasons. With the ability to withstand hard weather and its status as a green building material, tile roofing will remain one of the most requested roofs for years to come.
